About Cows & Soil Inc.

Cows and Soil - A Regenerative Company, provides consulting services related to the regenerative integration of grazing animals in a functioning grassland environment.

Our approach focuses on the “whole” which includes complex grassland communities, the people managing the land and the financial and environmental rewards from regenerative management.

We often go far beyond the ranch gate helping to integrate the environmental services produced from Grassland Environments with society’s goals of using nature-based solutions to increase soil carbon and restore grassland ecosystems.

Our Story

Get Down to the Roots

Norm Ward, the founding partner of Cows and Soil Inc., studied Animal Science and Grazing Management at the University of Alberta and went on to further study Holistic Resource Management. He practiced holistic resource management in his family ranching operation in SW Alberta.

While ranching he developed and used portable electric fences to help manage extensive grassland environments. In 2014 Norm officially added Range Ward Inc to his ranching business, with a mission of providing next-generation agriculture tools and solutions for regenerative animal and grassland management.

Range Ward developed and manufactured a full line of Power Grazer fencing products while at the same time helping clients generate financial and environmental wealth. In 2022 Range Ward was sold to Soil Works Natural Capital, a company helping to accelerate the world's transition to Regenerative Agriculture.

Norm is now focused on regeneratively integrating cows and soil.
